Love worn and with immense character, this Persian Malayer is a village rug that offers beauty and story from a century ago. The wear that you see is all natural, hand woven circa 1920. It has aged well and this wool rug sits on a cotton foundation featuring a navy blue ground and amazing French blue in the border.
While this rug is worn, it is stout and solid with a lot of love left to give. It's got that look you can't fake, all natural vegetable dyed wool that has aged beautifully with time and displays the life it's lived. The field showcases small scale art, known as Mahi design (water garden design). The border motif are turtle elements.
Malayer, a sizable village nestled between the renowned weaving regions of Hamadan and Sarouk in Northwest Persia, is celebrated for its richly detailed village rugs. The weavers of Malayer and its neighboring villages produced some of the most ornate and character-filled creations of their time. At finer levels of craftsmanship, every Malayer rug stands apart, each one shaped by a vast repertoire of patterns and the weaver’s own creative spirit.
